How to Apply for the New Generation Plate on eCitizen NTSA Portal

The Government of Kenya in 2022 introduced the new generation digital number plates. The new number plates were introduced with the aim to fight forgery, duplication and swapping. They announced in August 2022, they planned to phase out the old plates. Step by steps process of applying for the new plate:

ensure you have a clearly scanned copy of your logbook in pdf format and also a picture of rear and front plate (Also should be in pdf format)

  1. Navigate to https://accounts.ecitizen.go.ke/en/login and input your logins details/Create an account if don’t have one, below is the interface that will appear when you click on the link.
  2. After successful login navigate to the NTSA government services which is the top left bar, here is what will appear at the top left site of the website.
  3. Double click on the NTSA tab and click on continue on the tab that will pop up.
  4. This will take you to a dashboard where at the bottom right, all the vehicles under your name will appear. Click on “view” on the vehicle that you want to apply for the new plate.
  5. A new window will open, at the top right click on, motor vehicle services.
  6. In the next tab click on reflective plate , which will open up an online form which among other things you will input reason for application of the plate(lost or new generation plate), weather you need two plates(front and rear) or just one of them. The kind of plate you need for the front plate and rear plate i.e. there are two types of plate oblong and squire. You will need to upload the logbook and the picture of the front and rear plates in pdf format, you will also be requested to choose the collection Centre of your choice and the method of notification when your plate are ready either SMS or Email.
  7. After successful filling of the above form, you will click on complete application and another window will open for payment, choose your preferred method of payment, the cost of the new plate is 3050 for vehicles and KES 1550 for motorcycle, after successful payment an online receipt will be generated, which you will need to download and keep it as it will be required when picking your new plates.
  8. Usually it takes around one month for the plates to come out and you will be notified either through SMS or Email.

Ensure to carry with you the old plates and the payment receipt when going to pick your new plates at the NTSA office which you chose to pick the plates.
