The Kenyan traffic rules require us to have a valid driver's license. With the recent change in almost everything most drivers were required to have a smart DL card. The downside of the Smart DL is 3 year renewal requirement.

1. Log in to e-citizen
Key in your log in details. You can use email address or your National Identity number and a password. You can use the eCitizen forgot password option if you don't remember your eCitizen password.
An unique eCitizen verification code will be sent to either your email address or phone number. Depending on the option you select.
2. Access the National Transport Safety and Authority (NTSA) services.
On the e-citizen dashboard search and select National Transport and Safety Authority option.
Then choose Driving License from the services available.
3. Choose Renewal Option
On the NTSA Driving License services, select Home then Renew button.
4. Fill in General information and collection information
You will be directed to the general information page where you will fill in required information.
Note you will not continue to payment until you fill in the boxes with a red asterisk (*)
You will book a collection appointment on a suitable huduma center or government office where its convenience for pickup.
5. Payment information
Once you have filled all the information, you will be prompted to payment page.
Multiple payment options are supported e.g KCB, Equity, ABSA, Mpesa, Airtel Money, Cooperative Bank
Choose the payment option and complete the transaction.
6. Renewal Slip
After successful payment, download and print your renewal acknowledgment slip and payment receipt, with collection information. You will be required to present it during collection to avoid delay and inconveniences.
Finally Visit NTSA Portal (link below) to book smart DL pickup appointment date and time.
Common issues during Smart DL renewal and How to solve Them
- Forgot e-citizen Password: use the Forgot Password button to reset vial email or SMS.
- Payment failed: Wait and retry later, check balance to KES 3,050 or more or use a different payment method.
- System Downtime: Retry later.
- Wrong details: Visit NTSA offices or call to get the details updated.
